High School Softball Season: First Scrimmage Today!

It's that time again!

Today my daughter Tory’s high school softball season begins with the first of 7 scheduled scrimmages against local teams. Tory throws out her first pitch of what we hope is a long and successful season today at 4 p.m. I will drag a cooler full of cold water to the dugout a little early then climb into the stands to cheer for the team and Tory.

My girl is ready for the high school season to begin; Tory will be the starting varsity pitcher this year. The team graduated a number of key players last year so it could be a bit rocky around our home field until the newbies find their proper throwing and fielding arms, never mind pulling out their bats and hitting the ball. And I heard a number of the starting varsity players are injured.

This is what Tory swings.

That said, the young women have 7 scheduled scrimmages to get their game faces adjusted. And they are young, their second-year coach is young and spring is in the air. . .everything is possible.

GO BLUE!!!

Memorial Day Weekend

Big Doins

Big doins in Happy Volley!

It’s the first day of a big holiday weekend! My daughter Tory and I will be travelling to her brother’s Big Ten College so she can play in a huge East Coast volleyball tournament. She will be playing with her volleyball club’s 16s team. The team may get beat up a little bit, but the experience will be great. And the girls will get to meet and greet the number one women’s college volleyball players in the nation. That’s big!

State Sectional Final game today.

First, though, Tory’s high school softball team will be playing in the State Sectional championship game this afternoon at 4pm. Wish them luck! Good thing (for me anyway) is that Tory’s team will travel to the other team’s field and said field is about 45 minutes west of us. Anything west of us is good since as soon as the last softball is hit and the last out is made, Tory and I will be driving into the sunset toward volleyball land.

My Aunt Shirley and Uncle Chester will be meeting us at Big Ten College. I’m really excited to see them!! I will be staying in the dorms, and I’ve read that I won’t have internet access as it’s password protected.  If I don’t talk to you I hope you have fun, stay safe and are happy this weekend!

Where would we be without our veterans?

Hug a Veteran.

Can You Have Too Much of a Good Thing?

Bonita Springs, FL Day 7

Coconut Point is a terrific resort in the Hyatt family.

Another sunny, breezy, hot day at the Hyatt Coconut Point. The weather is gorgeous and my husband Mike and I are really happy to be here. Sticking to the schedule, we headed for the pool earlier today.

I took all of my ‘must haves’ with me, as usual.

I like my flip flops to blend with my outfit. Today? Black and cheetah spots!

The flip flops stay on my feet as I traverse a little parking lot and wend my way along a path to the adults-only pool.

I guzzle a lot of water in all this sun. How about you?

Mike gets towels for us while I settle into a lounge chair with table nearby.  I take out my ever-present water, sunglasses and sun lotion and put them within easy reach.

My new Michael Kors sunglasses, a steal at the nearby outlet mall!

Then I settle back with the May issue of O magazine, content in my sunny world.

P.S.  I am receiving regular texts from my softball friend Ed. My daughter’s high school team is in the first round of the county tournament. Fingers crossed. GO BLUE!

And my sister Cindy won big at bingo last night!  Yes! for her!!

What are you doing today?

It’s Not Just a Ball

It’s a Softball

Grimy and scuffed and very precious to its holder.

This is the game ball from my daughter Tory’s high school varsity softball game, the second one of the season. Her coach awarded her the game ball today. She is a pitcher and today she threw a great game. And I stand in awe of her abilities.

She started the game playing third base. After 8 batters and a score of 7-0 in the first inning, Coach D pulled Tory off third and put her in the circle to pitch. And boy did she pitch! She held the opposing team very, very well. They scored only two runs off Tory. And her team came back to win the game at the bottom of the eighth inning 10-9. It was awesome and tense and exciting to watch.

She pitched two innings during yesterday’s game and seven-plus today. And guess what? She has a game tomorrow, one Thursday and one Friday. She has practice on Saturday. Then next week she has four games out of the five days in the week.

If you ever want to  find me just drive over to our high school softball field. I’m the one wearing the sun hat and sunglasses holding the 32 ounce diet Coke from a local convenience store. Stop by and watch a few innings and cheer for our team. We’d love to see you.

And she bats well too.
